Construction Timeline for Southern Boone

Hartsburg Area

Fiber construction is COMPLETE for most all addresses in the Hartsburg area. There are some private roads that still will be finalized.

Englewood Area

Home installations are underway in the Three Creeks area.

Crews are finalizing some of the private roads and side streets. Once construction is done for these final areas, this section will be complete.

Completion of the Three Creeks Area is expected by late fall 2024.

Construction FAQs

Mainline

Step 1 | Mainline Construction

For the rural Ashland expansion, crews will work within existing electric facilities of Boone Electric Cooperative. Existing city and state utility easements will also be used. Once the electric system is prepared for fiber and/or locates are complete and any required permits are in place, mainline construction will begin. Crews then go back and lash the fiber to the strand. In the case of buried cable, pipe is placed underground with a boring machine. Crews then pull fiber through the pipe.

Drop Install

Step 2 | Fiber Drops

After the mainline is constructed and all spicing is complete, fiber drops are made. Drops take the fiber from the mainline to the home or business. After the drop is made, the crew will install a box on the outside of your home or business. Callabyte representatives will work with you to be certain the box is placed in the most efficient place that is agreeable to you. They will also schedule your inside installation date at this time.

Step 3 | Installation

Once the box is on your house, you will be ready for inside installation. 

Our Callabyte technician will install one of our cutting-edge Calix GigaSpire u6xw systems in your home, providing you with the ultimate Wi-Fi experience. This intelligent, high-performance unit offers the latest 802.11ax 'Wi-Fi 6' technology. In addition to its state-of-the-art capabilities, the GigaSpire u6xw offers Callabyte subscribers direct control of their network using the Callabyte Command app (available for iOS and Android users).

At the time of inside installation, our installer will first visit about where to place your router. Keep in mind the best wireless experience occurs within 35-40 feet of the ONT. To maximize your wireless experience, choose a central location for placement of the ONT, away from metal obstructions such as ductwork.

We may need access to your attic or crawl space, along with the area near the fiber panel on the outside of your home.

Your custom installation will include hooking up 1 internet service and 1 phone for no extra charge. Fees apply for additional installs and/or services.

Before leaving, all connections will be tested and we will do our best to answer any questions and address any concerns.

 

Yes and no.

You will be contacted about placement of the box on the outside of your home along with where the fiber line will run across the property. Once this is agreed upon, we can complete the outside work without someone being home. A member of our member service team will then contact you to schedule the final custom installation and activation. Our installers will need access inside your location to complete your installation. To ensure everything goes to your satisfaction, we ask that someone over the age of 18 is home and available to talk with the Callabyte installer.

When we work in areas with underground utilities, Callabyte will place conduit and fiber within utility easements.

This work will be completed by directional boring, trenching, backhoe, and hand digging. Additionally, to install Callabyte service to your home a fiber must be buried from our mainline fiber across your property. Once work is completed we will do our best to return your property to pre-installation conditions. If you have any concerns at any time, please contact our office at 573-826-2371.

Depending on what point in the construction process that you signed up for service, this can be tricky to answer.

When fiber installation begins in your area, it can take some time to install the mainline. Once that is complete, drop crews start bringing service from the mainline to the individual homes and businesses. In most cases, the key to watch for is the gray box, or NID, which will be attached on the side of your home. Once the NID is placed, the fiber drop is buried and splicing is completed. Our office will then contact you to schedule your inside custom installation. We can assure you that our team is working hard to bring you service as quickly and safely as possible.
