A look from 2015 to now
Callabyte began with a goal of improving quality of life for our Callaway Electric members and surrounding rural communities by providing access to truly high-speed, affordable, reliable internet service today and in the future.
This started with an investment in technology that was considered 'future proof'. Our 100% fiber optic network sends data near the speed of light over fiber optic cable. The technology continues to be considered the ultimate option for the future. It is the most reliable, with there being no limit on speed possibilities, no data caps and no buffering struggles.
As we approach our 10-year anniversary, subscriber needs have certainly increased from 2015. Household smart devices are multiplying, streaming TV is increasingly popular, working or learning from home is the new normal, and gaming technology is rapidly advancing. All of these activities demand more bandwidth and an internet provider that is willing to deliver that bandwidth.
The good news is, our core network of 100% fiber optic cable allows us to meet subscriber needs with higher speed options. We have invested in hardware and software that works with our existing network to turn up the speed. What exactly does this mean? Callabyte launched 4 gig technology to our entire service area in 2024. It is being delivered via WiFi 6 technology, which optimizes network traffic and connectivity speeds.
The future is here - with 4 gigs of fiber internet speed now available in all Callabyte service areas. PLEASE NOTE: 4 gig service is in high demand. When ordering, our MSR Team will need to check availability at your location. Upgrades are underway to expand this offering to meet additional subscriber demand.

Multigig FAQs
Probably not.
Most wireless devices are unable to fully utilize a 1 Gigabit connection therefore, a single wireless device with access to 4 times the bandwidth will likely show speedtest results exactly the same as on a 1 Gigabit connection.
Probably not. Or, maybe; it depends.
Today, most Ethernet devices have a physical throughput limitation of 1Gbps/1000Mbps. Likewise, the standard Callabyte Gigaspire router has 4 LAN ports, all limited to 1000M. When a Callabyte technician comes to your home to upgrade your service to 4G, a new router will be installed which will have one 10G Ethernet port. If your device also has a 10G Ethernet port, both devices will link and communicate at that speed. In this configuration, the device linked at 10G will be able to transmit and receive data at the newly provisioned 4G service. If your device only has a 1G Ethernet port, the maximum transmit and receive rate will be 1Gbps. Note: If you have multiple devices with 10G Ethernet ports, you will have to provide a 10G Ethernet switch which needs to be plugged into the 10G port on the Callabyte router.
The key benefit to 4G service is about making service better for multiple devices in the home and not one single device.
If your home has minimal devices accessing the Internet, there’s likely little benefit to a 4G connection. On the other hand, if your home has dozens to hundreds of Internet devices all demanding bandwidth at once, each and every device will see an improved experience as more capacity is delivered to the home to be shared.
Little did we know we were making a service available that would challenge the speedtest sites in reporting correctly.
This is a known issue and speedtest servers are diligently working to correct the reporting limitation.
If you have your own router and wireless access equipment, and want to connect to Callabyte at 10G (10Gbps physical link with 4Gbps service), contact our office and ask for a standalone ONT.
Our GigaPoint GP1101X provides a 10G symmetrical interface to your network.
