Word is beginning to come out about an Internet attack against an important phone carrier that delivers telephone calls around the US. The attack began on September 25th and continued on and off over the last few days. While few of us have heard of a company named Bandwidth, they are a large provider delivering telephone traffic between providers, states, and cities. Some Callabyte customers have been affected by the hostile activity as have numerous others across the US. Landline and cellular phone companies have both been affected. Similar attacks in Europe and Canada have occurred against other large telephone carriers in the prior weeks, all with a goal of extorting money. Service seems to be back to normal as of early Thursday, Sept 30 although numerous providers are continuing to watch for unusual activity.
